Departing from Akureyri we head to the fishing village of Húsavík, on our way to one of the wonders of nature, Ásbyrgi. Ásbyrgi is a huge horseshoe shaped depression that was created by catastrophic glacial bursts 2000 – 7000 years ago. After walking around Ásbyrgi we drive to Dettifoss; Europe´s most powerful waterfall. The falls are more then 100 meters wide and 44 meters high. The ground almost shakes beneath your feet as you get closer to this magnificent falls. Along the way to the waterfall we stop at a few places of interest, such as Hljóðaklettar and Hólmatungur. Here we can see some of the most beautiful scenery, unusual rock formations and basaltic columns in Iceland. From Dettifoss we go to Hverir with its bubbling mud pits and hot springs this really is a unique area. A short drive takes us to lake Mývatn. With a panoramic view along the way. At the arrival back to Akureyri is an option to go into the Akureyri Forest Lagoon where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the geothermal waters.
