Snowshoeing is extremely FUN.

The fantastic scenery of Eyjafjörður will lay at our feet on this tour around the wild artic nature of North Iceland.

This is a fully guided outdoor adventure for you where the main focus is to enjoy without hectic. where the main focus is to enjoy without hectic.

The winter wonderland of Akureyri City is magnificent and the experience of enjoying this view while snowshoeing makes this tour unique.

After strolling through the snowy winter nature, we will enjoy a little secret twist in the end of this fun activity!

Wear suitable boots and socks. The good news is that snowshoes adjust to fit pretty much any type of boot or shoe. So, your main concern is to wear something that keeps your feet comfortably warm and dry.

Walking on flat or rolling ground is fairly intuitive. Your stride should be wider than it is for hiking in order to avoid stepping on the insides of your snowshoe frames. Because of that, you may find your hips and groin muscles aching a bit after the first few times you snowshoe.

As you ascend hills, you use your toe or instep crampons for traction. Always place your feet firmly on snow. Several techniques come into play, depending on the conditions. On descents, keep your poles planted in front of you, knees bent and relaxed, and your body weight slightly back.

Walk smoothly and plant your heel first when you walk. It doesn’t happen a lot, but you can – and likely will fall at some point when you go snowshoeing. This occurs most often on descents. When you feel yourself starting to fall, try to fall toward the uphill side if at all possible.

Enjoy this fun activity and remember to dress well Wear suitable boots and socks.

Arctic Coastline (day 6 at 12 am )

The Arctic Coastline tour takes you along the picturesque coastline road with impressive sea cliffs and small old fishing villages. To arrive at our destination we drive through 3 mountain tunnels, passing dramatic sea cliffs and ocean views along the way.

Siglufjörður was the main herring town in Iceland during the “herring years”. In the early 20th century the workers arrived in full force to the area to make the most of this exciting time. Without a doubt, herring played the biggest part in getting the Icelandic nation out of the turf houses and into the modern time.

The tour begins with a visit to a former herring village, Hjalteyri. A visit there is like stepping back over 50 years in time. The old houses along with the former herring meal factory stand there as if waiting for the past to return.

When we arrive at Siglufjörður we begin by visiting the award winning Herring Era Museum (included in the tour price). Here you will have ample time to explore the boats, workers living quarters, and the factory areas of this impressive museum.

You will have free time to explore the village or enjoy refreshments in a local bakery before we head back to Akureyri.

This tour takes you along some of the most dramatic coastline in the North of Iceland.
